- August 15, 1879 – Lightning strikes a barn in Herndon, killing Eric Kidwell and Henry Moore, who had taken refuge from a thunderstorm in the barn.
- August 15, 1976 – 19-year-old Jason J. Caporaletti is killed when he crashes his car into several trees near the intersection of Telegraph Road and Old Telegraph Road in Alexandria. Caporaletti is taken to the Alexandria Hospital, where he is pronounced dead.
- August 15, 2000 – 41-year-old Staff Sergeant Spring L. Law is shot and mortally wounded by her 35-year-old former boyfriend Charles T. Saunders, who then kills himself in front of her home on Fort Belvoir. Sergeant Law is flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she dies.
- August 15, 2005 – The burned body of Hak Bong Kim, a 55-year-old carpenter from Burke, is found in a wooded area near the Saint Michael Catholic Church in Annandale.
- August 15, 2009 – 34-year-old Ahmed Chouaib is shot to death by his girlfriend, 64-year-old Maria De Las Mercedes Tizon, in her apartment at 14325 Climbing Rose Way, No. 105, in the Centre Ridge neighborhood of Centreville.
