- August 24, 1904 – 30-year-old laborer Walter Massey is mortally injured while attempting to board a moving train in Clifton. Massey is taken to the Alexandria Hospital, where he dies of his injuries that evening.
- August 24, 1945 – 48-year-old Lloyd S. Norborg and PFC Edward L. Kaas are killed in a head-on collision on the Lee Highway south of Centreville when Norborg loses control of his car and crashes into the Army truck in which Private Kaas was riding.
- August 24, 1987 – 17-year-old Derrick Forbes is shot and mortally wounded by 18-year-old Brian D. Loving in Loving's house at 14483 Golden Oak Road in Centreville. Forbes is flown to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies early the next morning.
- August 24, 1996 – 26-year-old soldier Ty Curiel is killed when the car he is riding in crashes into the railroad trestle support on Beulah Street near Backlick Road.
- August 24, 2010 – 17-year-old Gregory Malsam is electrocuted in Fairfax when a branch from the tree he is trimming strikes a high-voltage power line.
