- December 28, 1972 – Constance Anne Bohlin, the 40-year-old former host of the children's television show "Romper Room", dies of alcohol poisoning at her home at 2400 Sherwood Hall Lane in Alexandria.
- December 28, 1986 – Dr. Edward A. Lefrak performs the Washington area's first heart transplant on 20-year-old Eva Baisey at Fairfax Hospital.
- December 28, 1995 – Fairfax County Police find the body of 13-year-old Jonathan A. Hall in a frozen drainage pond in the Virginia 95 Business Park in Springfield.
- December 28, 2009 – 25-year-old Victoria Stefan unintentionally kills herself and her 22-year-old sister Elizabeth when she crashes the 2003 Jaguar she is driving into a concrete Jersey barrier while attempting to turn onto Route 29 from West Ox Road in Fairfax.
- December 28, 2012 – 19-year-old Zavier O. Stringfellow dies of a head injury sustained in a vehicle crash after he is stabbed by 22-year-old independent recreational agricultural products salesman Johnny E. Bonilla in Vienna. The stabbing came about when Stringfellow and two accomplices attempted to rob Bonilla of four ounces of marijuana and Bonilla defended himself. Attempting to flee the scene, Stringfellow crashed the minivan he was driving and fatally injured himself.
