- January 17, 1952 – 32-year-old Benjamin H. Turner shoots his 52-year-old uncle William to death in the elder man's Herndon home.
- January 17, 1993 – A police chase by an Arlington County Police officer ends when the suspect's stolen Toyota Tercel broadsides a Subaru at the intersection of Broad and Washington streets in Falls Church, killing 43-year-old Lemon Road Elementary School principal Emory W. Burchett and his daughters, 12-year-old Kara and 8-year-old Rena.
- January 17, 2007 – 42-year-old Matthew M. Dowdy is convicted for the September 2005 rape and murder of Judy J. Coate in Falls Church.
- January 17, 2014 – After finishing his shift at O'Sullivan's Irish Pub in Herndon, 30-year-old Damien P. Scanlan slips on some ice and fatally fractures his skull.
