- May 8, 1943 – Three-year-old Thomas R. Cuenco and his 3-month old sister Olivia J. Cuenco are drowned in the bathtub of their Alexandria home by their mother.
- May 8, 2006 – 18-year-old Michael W. Kennedy goes on a shooting rampage at the Sully District Police Station, killing Fairfax County Police detective Vicky O. Armel and mortally wounding officer Michael E. Garbarino before he himself is fatally shot by officers Mark Dale and Jeffrey Andrea.
- May 8, 2013 – Renovations begin on the Oak Marr RECenter in Oakton.
