- October 29, 1879 – James Leanhart is severely injured in a premature blast at the Theodora Copper Mine in Herndon.
- October 29, 1973 – 14-year-old student Natalia Semler is tortured and murdered on the grounds of the Madeira School in McLean. Her corpse is found tied to a tree early the next day by her father.
- October 29, 1993 – On her way to a party to celebrate her recent birthday, 14-year-old Christina Winkler is killed by 38-year-old drunk driver Sheila D. Hostetter as she and her 14-year-old friend Lane attempt to cross Reston Parkway in Reston.
- October 29, 2005 – A failed suicide by cop attempt by 56-year-old Joseph D. Oliver at the Archstone Sussex Commons apartment complex in Kingstowne ends when Oliver shoots and gravely injures Fairfax County Police officer Pete Feigleson and nearly hits officer Scott McKaskill. Police return fire, seriously injuring Oliver.
