- September 18, 1957 – The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously votes to create the Fairfax County Water Authority.
- September 18, 1972 – Dr. William S. Hoofnagle resigns as Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
- September 18, 1990 – Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder appoints District Court Judge Marcus D. Williams to the Fairfax Circuit Court to replace the retiring Judge Lewis H. Griffith, making Williams the first Black judge to sit on the bench of that court.
- September 18, 1997 – 23-year-old Michael A. Vengrin unintentionally kills himself when he loses control of his 1996 Chevrolet Camaro and strikes a tree, flipping the car, on Ox Road at Popes Head Road in Fairfax Station.
- September 18, 2008 – The 1st Stage Theater opens in McLean.
- September 18, 2011 – 1-year-old infant Wreef Wafy Almutiri drowns in a bathtub at the Westin Reston Heights hotel in Reston, where his parents are staying.
- September 18, 2012 – 52-year-old Cheri Cusumano is killed when her 2011 Toyota Sienna goes out of control and strikes a tree, subsequently bursting into flames on Lewinsville Road in McLean.
