- April 17, 1952 – 80-year-old Abraham F. Hunsberger is mortally injured when he turns his car into the path of a dump truck driven by 43-year-old Egbert O. Compton at the intersections of routes 123 and 645 in Fairfax Station. Hunsberger is taken to Arlington Hospital, where he dies about an hour later.
- April 17, 1991 – 34-year-old Rodney A. Cheek fatally shoots his estranged wife, 28-year-old Deeta Venson-Cheek, as she parks her car outside the Heritage Center building in Annandale. Cheek then speeds back to Prince George's County, where he kills 34-year-old Edward Dawson in his Capitol Heights print shop and then fatally shoots himself after crashing his motorcycle into a pickup truck.
- April 17, 2009 – 53-year-old Marysusan Giguere is sentenced to eight years in prison for voluntary manslaughter for shooting her husband Ronald to death in the bathroom of their Vienna home on March 3, 2008.
- April 17, 2014 – A gas explosion in the Audubon Estates trailer park in Alexandria damages 21 mobile homes.
