- April 18, 1916 – A massive forest fire starts at Springfield Station and sweeps through the southeastern portion of the county, causing thousands of dollars of damage, destroying four homes, and threatening the communities of Accotink, Accotink Station, and Lorton before it is finally brought under control.
- April 18, 1984 – 22-year-old Sandra D. Niccum and 38-year-old Donna P. Tehan are beaten to death by John C. Marteny at their home at 2619 Glengyle Drive in Vienna. Their bodies are discovered late the next day by Fairfax County Police.
- April 18, 1986 – Fairfax Circuit Court Judge William G. Plummer sentences 16-year-old Thomas L. Grogg to 40 years in prison for the murder of Hallie Hollis in Lorton on October 20, 1985.
- April 18, 2013 – The Fairfax County School Board unanimously approves Karen Garza as the new superintendent of the Fairfax County Public Schools system.
