- December 4, 1987 – 19-year-old Brian D. Loving is convicted of voluntary manslaughter for shooting Derek C. Forbes in Centreville on August 24.
- December 4, 1988 – Rachael A. Raver and Warren H. Fulton, III, are murdered in Reston by Alfredo R. Prieto.
- December 4, 1990 – 19-year-old Louis V. Arai is convicted of first-degree murder, robbery, and use of a firearm for shooting 7-Eleven clerk Mohammad Jamal Tafwiz in a penny-ante robbery in the Lincolnia area of Alexandria on September 25 which netted Arai a total of eight dollars.
- December 4, 2002 – A failure at Columbia Gas of Virginia's Barnsfield delivery station knocks out service to about 3,800 customers in the Herndon area just in time for the season's first snowstorm. The county opens Herndon High School to serve as a temporary shelter for residents driven from their homes by the lack of heat.
- December 4, 2004 – 35-year-old Glenn Donsanto dies in a fire at his father's home at 1925 Batten Hollow Road in Vienna.
- December 4, 2013 – While racing on the Franconia-Springfield Parkway, 30-year-old Brian B. Blaine is mortally injured when he loses control of his 2001 Honda S200 convertible and crashes near the intersection of Spring Village Drive.
