- February 1, 1967 – Dexter S. Odin becomes the first Fairfax County Attorney.
- February 1, 1969 – The U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service creates the Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge to provide a habitat for the bald eagle, which was an endangered species at the time.
- February 1, 2007 – 45-year-old William D. Sampson mortally wounds 47-year-old Michael Vernon at the Fairview Motel in Alexandria when he stabs him to settle a dispute. Vernon is taken to the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, where he dies shortly thereafter.
- February 1, 2012 – 69-year-old Basil Knick is killed by 59-year-old Darryl Barnes when Barnes strikes Knick with his car on Fox Mill Road in Reston.
