- February 23, 1917 – Henry A. McCoy is killed by a train.
- February 23, 1929 – 44-year-old Samuel Van Dyke Brooke kills one of his passengers, 39-year-old Julia Kelly, and fatally injures himself when he loses control of the car he is driving and crashes into a ditch on the Little River Turnpike. Brooke is taken to the Alexandria Hospital, where he dies on February 25.
- February 23, 1944 – 59-year-old George Catlett burns to death in his trailer at the Washington Cabins on Route 1 in Alexandria when a tree falls on the trailer, causing the stove to overturn.<
- February 23, 1950 – The City of Falls Church files an annexation suit seeking 6880 acres of land in Fairfax County be added to the city.
- February 23, 1964 – To cover his petty theft, a 15-year-old boy sets a fire at the Braddock Elementary School in Annandale, causing $300,000 in damage.
- February 23, 1993 – 37-year-old Nancy Koppel is killed when she pulls her 1990 Dodge Shadow in front of a 1990 Toyota Four-Runner driven by 42-year-old off-duty Fairfax County Police Lieutenant Colin Morgan on Stringfellow Road in Chantilly and is struck.
- February 23, 2014 – 20-year-old Luz F. Inscoe unintentionally kills her passenger, 20-year-old Vuthea Hiep, when she crashes her 2002 Volkswagon Cabriolet into a telephone pole on Rolling Road near Terra Grande Avenue in Springfield.
- February 23, 2016 – 35-year-old Babatunde E. Fadahunsi is shot to death in his apartment in the Skyline Towers at 5597 Seminary Road in Falls Church during a botched ripoff by 25-year-old Bernardo E. Ford, Jr.
