- August 29, 1906 – 20-year-old Lucy Grove attacks and beats 66-year-old Justice of the Peace August Henning about the head with a dog whip at the Vienna post office, where he had been lured by a false message of a telephone call. Grove was angry at Henning for dismissing her complaint against Eugene Hall, who she claimed had assaulted her the previous July.
- August 29, 1957 – Fairfax County Chief of Police Major Carl R. McIntosh resigns due to ill health.
- August 29, 1978 – 58-year-old Louis King is shot to death in his home at 3530 Queen Ann Drive in the Country Club Hills neighborhood of Fairfax by his loser son, 18-year-old unemployed high school dropout Gary King.
- August 29, 1984 – A 150-pound cylinder of poisonous chlorine gas at the water treatment plant at Camp 30 in Fairfax ruptures, injuring four people and causing the evacuation of more than 200 others, including the 55 prisoners held at the camp.
- August 29, 2005 – 46-year-old Dana E. Moro beats 45-year-old Alexandria attorney Eric N. Miller to death at the Alexandria Motel.
- August 29, 2013 – Following a 50-minute standoff at his home at 7907 Pebble Brook Court in Springfield, Fairfax County Police Officer Adam D. Torres shoots and mortally wounds unarmed 46-year-old kitchen installer John B. Geer. Geer retreats back into his townhouse, where he bleeds to death. Geer's corpse is found on the floor when the SWAT team uses a hostage rescue vehicle to knock down the front door and a team enters the home.
