- October 14, 1956 – Circuit Court Judge Arthur W. Sinclair sentences 19-year-old Robert L. Sigmon to life in prison for the March 18, 1955 murder of his aunt, Isabel Harris.
- October 14, 1998 – Dwayne A. Wright is executed for the murder of Saba Tekle in October 1989 in Annandale.
- October 14, 2002 – 47-year-old FBI Analyst Linda G. Franklin is shot to death in the parking lot of the Home Depot in the Seven Corners area of Falls Church by Lee Boyd Malvo, one of the two so-called Beltway Snipers.
- October 14, 2010 – 18-year-old Wyatt J. Campbell brings a golf club to a knife fight behind the Rose Hill Plaza in Alexandria and is fatally stabbed by 15-year-old Steven Smith. Campbell is driven to the Inova Healthplex in Franconia, where he dies.
- October 14, 2011 – The Colonel William L. Durrer Police Forensic Facility, named for the former Chief of Police, is dedicated at the McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center in Fairfax. The dedication is attended by Col. Durrer, his wife Ayleen, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Sharon Bulova, and current Fairfax County Police Chief Colonel David M. Rohrer.
- October 14, 2013 – 38-year-old Pablo Aquino is killed when he falls 40 feet from the roof of the building at 950 Herndon Parkway in Herndon.
