- July 27, 1967 – Fairfax County Police Detective Richard H. Cocchini shoots and kills 16-year-old Buddy M. Fultz when Fultz, upon being surprised in the commission of a burglary at the Trailways Bus Depot at 6583 Backlick Road in Springfield, attacks the detective with a tire iron.
- July 27, 1977 – 30-year-old Fairfax County Police officer Karen J. Bassford is killed near Vienna when she loses control of her patrol car and crashes into a utility pole on Gallows Road.
- July 27, 2005 – Following a contempt of cop incident, Fairfax County Police Lieutenant Lance E. Schaible uses the "touch a cop, go to jail" gambit as an excuse to arrest Fairfax County Planning Commisioner Ronald W. Koch at the Sully District Station.
- July 27, 2006 – Tim Thomas is named as principal of Westfield High School to replace the departing Mike Campbell.
