- February 3, 1968 – 42-year-old Robert M. Snapp shoots and mortally wounds his 38-year-old estranged wife Betty outside his home at 2801 Fort Drive in Alexandria. She is taken to the Alexandria Hospital, where she dies the next day.
- February 3, 1972 – The Northern Virginia Relic Hunters Association holds its first meeting in Centreville.
- February 3, 1986 – 41-year-old Gerald Bigam unintentionally kills himself and his passenger, 29-year-old Esther Bobcock, when he runs a red light at the intersection of Routes 28 and 50 in Chantilly.
- February 3, 1992 – Barbara P. Beach, of the amusingly-named Alexandria law firm of Beach, Butt & Associates, becomes the Town of Herndon's first full-time town attorney.
- February 3, 2000 – Following a heated argument with his fiancee, 29-year-old Joseph Bondurant shoots himself in the head with a .380 caliber pistol while driving along Interstate 66 near the Fairfax County Parkway, crashing his pickup truck and causing a 12 mile back up. Bondurant is taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he dies on February 4.
- February 3, 2007 – A three-alarm fire severely damages the Donald Lacey Instructional Center in Annandale, partially collapsing the roof and displacing the 150 employees who work at the center.
- February 3, 2012 – Tony Tong is sentenced to 30 years in prison by Judge Lorraine Nordlund for fatally shooting his wife, Kathleen Tran, in the family home in Chantilly on October 22, 2010.
- February 3, 2014 – Attempting to flee from a Fairfax County Police officer, 27-year-old Eduin Joel Galeas Mejia unintentionally kills himself and his 20-year-old passenger Orlin Misael Nolasco Hernandez when he crashes the 1999 Dodge Neon he is driving into a tree near the intersection of Hilltop Road with Old Lee Highway in Merrifield.
- February 3, 2015 – 37-year-old Natasha McKenna suffers cardiac arrest after being tasered four times while being removed from her cell and placed in a restraint chair at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. After noticing that McKenna has died, Fairfax County Sheriff's deputies resuscitate McKenna and take her to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she dies for keeps on February 8.
