- January 7, 1940 – Fulfilling his own prophecy of impending doom, 29-year-old tobacco salesman Sidney M. Little is beaten to death by 28-year-old Marine private Alexander J. Stevenson in a picnic area near the Fort Hunt CCC Camp in Alexandria.
- January 7, 1961 – 38-year-old Thomas B. Blevinns is killed outside his home at 1310 Annandale Road by 44-year-old Falls Church resident Dale E. Farringer when Farringer strikes Blevinns with his automobile.
- January 7, 1965 – 33-year-old George Adams pleads guilty to the murder of Hyman Meyers during a robbery at Meyers' store in Oakton on July 30, 1964. Circuit Court Judge Arthur W. Sinclair sentences Adams to 30 years in prison.
- January 7, 1969 – 20-year-old Margaret A. Wisniewski is struck by two cars and killed as she attempts to cross Columbia Pike at Bennett Drive in Annandale. Wisniewski is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where she is pronounced dead.
- January 7, 1972 – Mark W. Tucker is sentenced to 5 years in prison by Judge Percy Thornton for fatally shooting his mother, Mary J. Tucker, in July 1970.
- January 7, 1980 – 45-year-old George E. Brown, Jr. kills himself and 28-year-old Betty B. Mixon when he crashes his car head-on into Mixon's on Richmond Highway in Lorton.
- January 7, 1995 – The Chantilly Regional Library opens.
- January 7, 2004 – 30-year-old Loan P. Nguyen and her 22-month-old daughter Ashley N. Ton are murdered by Dinh N. Pham following a botched burglary attempt at the family home at 2877 Lester Lee Court in Falls Church.
- January 7, 2017 – Following a $7.1 million, 15-month renovation, the Pohick Regional Library in Burke reopens.
